In a Rosh Hashanah message, Yehuda Blum, Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, expressed hope that the New Year will bring “The long-awaited peace for the State of Israel and for all the peoples of the Middle East. May it bring redemption to our captive brethren in the Soviet Union and in Arab countries.” The envoy added: “May the New Year see the strengthening of unity and of the bonds of solidarity within the Jewish people and the enhancement of those eternal values that have made our people great.”
