New Jersey Governor Richard J. Hughes last night praised the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith for its half century of service. He was presented at a dinner with a plaque by the organization in recognition of his efforts toward the goal of “equal opportunity for all Americans.”
Governor Hughes said that while the ADL was formed for the defense of Jews, its “broad and generous” view reflect the philosophy that the freedom of everyone is endangered when the freedom of one is at stake. Plaques were also awarded to Roy Wilkins, national executive secretary of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and to Dore Shary, national chairman of the ADL.
