Richard E. Gutstadt, executive vice-chairman of the B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation League, was presented here yesterday by the Metropolitan Council of B’nai B’rith with the Council’s 1952 Humanitarian Award “in grateful recognition of his invaluable contributions to human welfare and his conscientious devotion to the traditional American ideals of freedom.” More than 1,200 persons attended the ceremony.
In accepting the award, Mr. Gutstadt said: “We must all be committed to standing firm for everything that is decent in democracy regardless of the price we have to pay. Each of us, in a personal capacity, when seized with the resolve to work incessantly for B’nai B’rith goals, can become a leader.”
