Contributions amounting to $4,000 for war relief and refugee aid to victims of Axis aggression in five of the United Nations were announced here today by the Central Administrative Board of B’nai B’rith. These donations brought to $700,000 the total of B’nai B’rith funds made available for these purposes in 16 countries since September, 1939. Of this sum, $170,000 was made available since Pearl Harbor.
The new contributions, all made from B’nai B’rith’s war service fund, were $2,000 to Russian War Relief Inc.; $1,000 to the University in Exile in New York City; $500 to United China Relief and $250 each to the British War Relief Society and the Queen Wilhelmina Fund.
B’nai B’rith also announced a $1,000 contribution to the Daniel Sieff Research Institute in Rehoboth, Palestine, which is engaged in important chemical research closely allied to the United Nations’ war effort. Dr. Chaim Weizmann is director of the Institute.
