Lodges Throughout Country Report Activities to Cincinnati (Jewish Daily Bulletin)
A bequest of $500,000 for the B’nai Brith Orphanage and Home for Friendless Children at Erie, Pa., was contained in the will of Samuel M. Braunstein, who died in Atlantic City in November, a statement from the headquarters here of the Independent B’nai Brith announces. Mr. Braunstein’s will disposed of charitable bequests amounting to $375,000.
Facilities for Jewish education will be increased in Denver, Colorado, through the efforts of the B’nai Brith lodge there. A program has been planned by the Committee on Jewish Education, which will cooperate with all Jewish agencies of that city to extend opportunities for Jewish education to all Jewish children.
The B’nai Brith lodge in Passaic, N. J., is directing activities toward the erection of a Jewish Community Center in that city, reports received at headquarters state. Meetings in connection with furthering the plan for the Center are being held at the lodge meetings rooms there and the B’nai Brith is working with other organizations for bringing the plans to a successful conclusion.
Under the auspices of Gilead Lodge, Milwaukee, the Wisconsin Hillel Foundation took the affirmative side in a debate with the Milwaukee Menorah Society on the question: “Prejudice Against the Jew in the United States is Inevitable.” When the same Hillel team debated this subject recently in Chicago, 1500 persons attended.
Of the 15 songs in this year’s University of Michigan Opera, “Rainbow’s End,” eleven were written by Edward M. Heyman, former chairman of the Dramatics Committee at the Michigan Hillel Foundation. The production toured New York, Chicago, Cleveland and Detroit.
