Label A. Katz, international president of B’nai B’rith, said today that “the various Zionist organizations have made, and are still making, an important contribution to Jewish life everywhere.” He said he thought it “ill-conceived, ill-considered and ill-timed for anyone to advocate the dissolution of such organizations as–to name a few–the Zionist Organization of America, Hadassah or Mizrachi, each of which plays a constructive role today.”
Mr. Katz pointed out that “in view of the tremendous challenges that face the Jewish people in many spheres, these organizations have a meaning and a reason for their continued existence.” He added that “perhaps what is called for is a re-examination and re-assessment of the program and function of the Zionist movement in an ever-changing world. This is a judgment of reappraisal which rests with the Zionist movement itself.”
