The erection of a blood-processing laboratory in Israel as a memorial to the late Col. David Marcus was authorized here last night at the concluding session of the 39th annual convention of B’nai Zion.
The convention also adopted a resolution urging the United States to extend immediate de jure recognition of Israel and “support action in the U.N. Security Council for the admission of Israel as a member of the community of free nations in the world.” The U.S. was also asked to exchange diplomatic representatives and establish trade.” relations with the Jewish state.
President Truman and the U.S. and other governments were lauded for their speedy recognition of the new state in another resolution which also pledged unstinted support to Israel and to its President, Dr. Chaim Weizmann. The belief that Israel will develop into a great, free and democratic nation” was also voiced.
Harry A; Pine, assistant corporation counsel of Newark, N.J., was elected president of B’nai Zion for the coming year, succeeding Abraham A. Redelheim, of Brooklyn, N.Y. The convention also adopted a resolution sharply criticizing the congressional Bill to admit 205,000 DP’s to the U.S. within the next two years as “discriminating against Catholics and Jews, while making it possible for former Hitlerite fifth columnists to enter the U.S.”
