The Board of Deputies of British Jews at a meeting today declared that the flogging of two Tripoli Jewish merchants coupled with anti-Jewish articles in the Italian press has given rise to apprehension that Italy is departing from its tradition of tolerant treatment of Jews and is beginning to emulate the Nazis.

The board voiced the hope that the difficulty in Tripoli, arising from refusal to obey a Sabbath opening ordinance, and the exacerbation of feeling resulting there from, would shortly disappear.
