The Bolivian Government is opposing the recent bill introduced in the Chamber of Deputies which would bar the admission of Jews to that country it was made known today through the Inter-American Jewish Council. The bill was introduced by pro-Nazi elements in order to embarrass the Government. It is not likely that it will be passed by the Senate and, in any event, will be vetoed by the President of Bolivia, the Council was assured.
In the protest against this legislation, the first discriminatory immigration statute to be introduced into the Western Hemisphere, thirty-four members of the Argentine Legislature have addressed an open letter of protest to the Bolivian Chamber of Deputies. It is believed that this protest, which stresses the danger inherent in discriminatory legislation of any kind, will have a powerful effect in preventing the passage of the proposed legislation in Bolivia.
