A woman and two children were injured this afternoon when a bomb exploded in a garbage can in a crowded street in the center of Netanya. Like Israel’s other beach resort cities, Netanya was crowded today as Israelis tried to find relief from the near 100 degree heat wave. Several Arabs were held for questioning. The Netanya beach is popular among Arabs from the West Bank and visitors from Arab countries who come to Israel each summer as part of the “open bridges” program.
Earlier today, another incident was averted when a soldier in Rehovot noticed a mysterious package aboard a bus traveling from Tel Aviv to Beersheba. It contained an explosive device which was detonated harmlessly by a police bomb disposal unit.
