The West German Government this week-end expressed its willingness to enter into direct negotiations with Israel over the Jewish State’s reparations claims.

In a comment on the Israel Parliament’s decision last week to seek direct talks with Germany, the Bonn Government’s official bulletin expressed the hope that the negotiations would get under way soon. “A friendly solution to these material problems is regarded as the first possibility to ease the relations between the German and the Jewish people, which are strained by the crimes of the National Socialist regime,” the bulletin declared.
