The West German Government has just completed drafting quotas for the various types of goods and services it will supply Israel for the next three years under the terms of the German-Israel reparations pact signed six weeks ago at Luxemberg. The Germans are prepared to pay Israel 400,000,000 deutschemarks (approximately $94,000,000) in goods and service by March, 1954.
The Bonn Government has stated its willingness to continue paying 75,000,000 marks annually for crude oil supplies to Israel, out of German funds of foreign currency, until March, 1954. At that time the Germans will re-examine their position to see whether they are able to continue making such payments.
A ceiling of 45,000,000 marks worth of finished steel products has been set for the first year’s reparations. Shipment of chemical goods, agricultural products, pig iron and raw steel products for the first year will be kept to a maximum of 43,000,000 marks. Services and other unspecified goods will total 37,000,000.
