A $50,000,000 export credit guarantee is under consideration by the West German Republic for work by several West German firms on the first stage of the Aswan high dam projects in Egypt, a Bonn Foreign Ministry spokesman declared last night.
The spokesman said that the firms had offered help to the United Arab Republic in capital, goods and services and that a decision on the credit guarantee was expected in a few days.
The firms were listed as the Hochtief AG of Essen, Siemens and the Dortmunder Union-Bruckenbau. The UAR Embassy in Bonn distributed yesterday a statement saying that participation in the first part of the project was still open to Western countries.
