The Interior Ministry announced today that the issue of seeking a ban on the extremist National Democratic Party (NPD) was under review. Interior Minister Paul Luecke described the NPD last year as neo-Nazi. The Ministry said that no immediate move for a ban was planned before it was certain that such an action would be sustained by the West German courts.
At the same time, Mr. Luecke reported that, last year, 449 anti-Jewish incidents were reported in West Germany. Included, he stated, were 29 incidents of the desecration of Jewish cemeteries, and 99 cases of threats to individual Jews.
