Book Marks 300th Anniversary of Oldest Congregation in U.S.

The publication of a book marking the 300th anniversary of the founding of Congregation Shearith Israel in New York, the first Jewish congregation formed in the United States, was announced here yesterday by the congregation. The book, “Portraits Etched in Stone,” by Rabbi David de Sola Pool, deals with the first Jewish settlers in America and their struggles in behalf of democracy.
