General Chairman George Shapiro tonight announced that the Combined Jewish Appeal raised $5,519,218 to meet vital needs of local, national overseas and Israel institution. Last year Boston raised $5,475,000.
Addressing over 500 Jubilant volunteers at a suburban country club, Mr. Shapiro declared that “We have exceeded last year’s figure because ours is a responsible, mature community sensitive to the needs in Israel as well as to the ongoing needs locally, nationally and overseas.” Beneficiaries of the CJA are the Associated Jewish Philanthropies and its 23 constituent agencies: national and overseas institutions, and UJA and its Special Fund.
