Contributions totalling $536,950 have been turned in to the Associated Jewish Philanthropies in the first two weeks of its $750,000 campaign, Louis E. Kirstein, president, announced today. This represents a record amount raised in this community in such a short period.
The total raised to date is within $50,000 of the amount raised during the entire preceding year and includes 6,251 subscribers, more than 1,500 in excess of the complete list of subscribers for 1929-30. Another indication of the remarkable response of the community is the receipt of more than $75,000 in cash which is to be used for immediate relief purposes.
The campaign will be continued until the $750,000 goal is reached thus assuring the $65,000 anonymous contribution contingent on the campaign quota being reached.
Henry Penn, campaign chairman, pointed out that the non-Jewish support given the drive this year was also unprecedented. Several thousand dollars have been received from sources which were unsolicited, the donors writing that they were anxious to add their contribution in tribute to their fellow citizens of the Jewish faith.
