A gold medal award to the “Jewish Doctor of the Year” for the greatest contribution to medical science during 1949 was presented here to Dr. Louis K. Diamond, Boston physician, at the annual convention of Phi Lambda Kappa, largest Jewish medical fraternity in America.
Announcement was also made at the convention of the annual award of three $2,000 medical scholarships to the most deserving undergraduates at Hebrew Medical School in Israel. The awards will be known as the Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Winarick scholarships. Intent of the scholarships is to provide Israel with proper medical care and recipients must pledge to practice in the state of Israel.
Dr. Diamond is the director of the Blood Grouping Laboratory and of the Hematology Research Revision at the Children’s Hospital in Boston as well as senior visiting physician of the pellatric service. In addition to his present post as medical director of the (##) Red Cross national blood program, he is also a member of the (##) Penel of the National Institute of Health, responsible for recommending (##) for hematology research all over the country.
