A 15-year-old Gaza boy stricken with cholera had been living for the past two weeks in the Old City, it was disclosed here today. The boy was admitted to the Government Hospital In the Old City yesterday and health authorities have quarantined all persons with whom he had contact.
The boy and his father came from Gaza two weeks ago and had been sharing a bed in a room rented from residents of the Shuafat refugee camp in the Gaza Strip who had been working in Israel. The room was shared by four other workers from the administered territories.
The Health Ministry said yesterday that all Medical institutions have made the necessary arrangements to quarantine other cases of cholera that might appear. Israel’s last outbreak of cholera occurred Aug. 21,1970 and by the time it ran its course 250 persons had been stricken with the disease in Jerusalem and 240 others in the Gaza Strip. Two persons died. An outbreak of cholera was reported in Syria two weeks ago.
