The first national conference of the Joint Boycott Council, attended by some 2,000 delegates of Jewish and non-Jewish organizations, yesterday called for intensification of the anti-Nazi boycott in this country and South American and urged President Roosevelt to apply an additional 50 per cent ad valorem duty on German goods imported into the United States. Speakers included Dr. David Efron, Dr. Stephen S. Wise, Dr. Robert Marcus, Adolph Held, Dr. William Jay Schieffelin and Dr. Joseph Tenenbaum. A letter was read from William Green, president of the American Federation of Labor urging vigorous application of the boycott.
