Brandeis University today announced the names of eight winners of its 1962 Creative Arts medals and citations in the fields of music, poetry, sculpture and theatre. The awards, each accompanied by a grant of $1,500, will be presented to the winners at a reception on March 18 in New York City.
The medals, awarded for a lifetime of outstanding artistic achievement, will be presented to S.N. Behrman, playwright; Louise Bogan, poet; Alexander Calder, sculptor; and Edgar Varese, composer. The citations, given in recognition of promise, will be awarded to J.P. Donleavy, playwright; Ben Belitt, poet; David Slivka, sculptor; and Ralph Shapey, composer.
