Georg Brandes, noted Danish Jewish critic, underwent a serious operation last Friday. The operation, which was necessary due to stomach disorders, was declared to be successful, notwithstanding the advanced age of the patient. Mr. Brandes celebrated his eighty-fifth birthday on February 4th.
Mr. Brandes’ condition caused wide concern throughout Europe. Many messages were received from prominent persons, inquiring after his health. Among those who inquired by long distance telephone was Chancellor Marx of Germany.
