Semi-official sources indicated today that the Government opposed large-scale Jewish immigration, as the regulations implementing the new immigration law were awaited. It was believed that only close relatives of present Jewish inhabitants and agricultural colonists would be admitted.
Meanwhile, President Getulio Vargas visited the Rezende agricultural colony in the State of Rio de Janeiro, where 300 Jews have been settled by the Jewish Colonization Association. Revived by Dr. Leitchik, a Leader of the association, and Mr. Aizenberg, head of the colony, the President expressed interest in the colony’s development.
