The development of a new Jewish community in Brazil’s ultra-modern capital city of Brasilia was reported to the World Jewish Congress today by Dr. Alfred Hirschberg, first secretary of the Confederation of Brazilian Jews.
Dr. Hirschberg said that the new community is far removed from other centers of Jewish life in Brazil but that there are already about 120 Jewish families in Brasilia, consisting mainly of government employes and professionals. The problem of how to extend them support in Jewish affairs, Dr. Hirschberg said, will be one of the main issues to be discussed at the next board meeting of the Confederation of Brazilian Jews, in October.
