The national convention of the Zionist Organization of Brazil in Soo Paulo defeated a motion by the Likud delegates to acclaim the government of Premier Menachem Begin, At the same time, it voted to ban criticism of the Israeli government and its leaders in official Zionist publications in Brazil.
The acclamation nation was defeated by the unanimous vote of the III delegates, including the Likud contingent. The convention adopted a resolution stressing the “unlimited support” of Brazil’s Zionist movement for the State of Israel, the people of Israel and the World Zionist Organization. Fishel Tchereshnia, of Soo Paulo, was elected president of the executive committee of the ZOB and Marcos Halfin, of Rio de Janeiro, was elected president of the national Zionist Council.
The convention was addressed by the Israeli Ambassador, Moshe Erell. He appealed to Brazilian Jews to answer the latest El Fatah resolution calling for Israel’s destruction by strengthening the Zionist Organization in this country.
