Brazil’s president marked the 62nd anniversary of the liberation of Nazi death camps by visiting a synagogue and condemning Holocaust denial. In his comments during services last Friday night at Latin America’s largest synagogue in Sao Paulo, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva praised the U.N. General Assembly for adopting a resolution condemning Holocaust denial, The Associated Press reported. Rabbi Israel Singer, chairman of the World Jewish Congress’ Policy Council, said Lula’s visit would have a “trickle-down effect” on public attitudes throughout South America.
