Breach in Ranks of Arab Executive Reported Healed but Opposition Remains

The breach in the ranks of the Arab Executive that resulted from the resignation of three of its officers and two members of the newly-elected delegation to London, is reported to have been healed following the withdrawal of the resignations of Mayor Nashashibi of Jerusalem, a member of the delegation, and Mouza Kazim, president of the Executive. The breach was healed after a meeting between Kazim and Nashashibi.

Nevertheless the Arab paper, “Felestin,” proposes that a full meeting of the Arab Executive be called to hold new elections for the delegation while another paper, “El Akdam,” suggests that an All-Palestine meeting of Arabs be called to elect the delegates in view of the egotism revealed at the recent balloting. Elsasaat Moustakim discloses that many members of the Arab Executive were absent during the balloting and that non-members voted.

The Hebrew paper, “Davar,” says that the “inclusion in the delegation of persons implicated in the August riots won’t add to its honor or weight. Nashashibi’s acceptance teaches an unforgettable lesson. He does not realize to what an extent he degrades his title and the good name of Jerusalem. Let Nashashibi go to London but let it be clear that he won’t again occupy the mayoralty chair. The Jews of Jerusalem generously refrained from using their numerical strength and did not elect a Jew although entitled to do so. We now reap the reward.”
