The ground breaking exercises of the new Community Center building to be erected at Arverne, L. I., was held yesterday afternoon.
Among the speakers were Judge Otto A. Rosalsky, Dr. Mordecai Soltes, director of education of the Jewish Welfare Board; Congressman William F. Brunner, Municipal Court Justice William P. Wiener, Israel Unterberg, president of the Jewish Education Association; Bernard Semel, Joseph Geist, president of the Chamber of Commerce of the Rockaways; Jacob Strumeyer, president of Congregation Derech Emunah, under whose auspices the new $125,000 Center building is to be erected; Jacob Rosenberg and Samuel Brandler, honorary presidents of the Congregation; and Isidor Klein, chairman of the Building Committee. Rabbi Henry Fisher delivered the invocation.
This occasion also marked the twenty-fifth anniversary of the founding of Congregation Derech Emunah, the oldest congregation in the Rockaways.
