Brigadier David Shaltiel, former Ambassador to Mexico, has been appointed head of the Foreign Ministry’s newly created department of economic and political planning, it was announced here today.
The new department will “investigate political factors interfering with Israel’s economic ties abroad and will plan steps for the removal of those factors,” Observers here believed that Arab interference with Israel’s foreign trade would be among the factors to be tackled by the department.
