It was reliably understood today that the British Government has agreed to the establishment of a “revolving” camp in England to house possibly 5,000 German-Jewish adult males pending their retraining and reemigration.
The Times, again emphasizing the urgency of international assistance for Refugee, said editorially today that the governments represented in the Intergovernmental Refugee Committee were committed to more than academic sympathy and if they did not translate their professions into practice, “a terrible chapter will be written in the history of human hypocrisy.” The editorial stated there was not the slightest use in waiting to see what Germany would do to help.
The Times asked the British Government to instruct the colonial governments immediately to start surveys and to offer all expert assistance available. It urged collection of a staff of experts and appointment of an energetic chief to devote his whole time to the problem which, it declared, was too large for private effort and too urgent for one government to await the actions of other governments.
Appointments to the apportionment committee of the Baldwin Fund for Refugees include Lord Baldwin, chairman, Sir Neill Malcolm, vice-chairman; Earl Grey, Lord Bearsted, Lord Rankeillour and Lord Rothschild. The fund, launched Dec. 7, now totals more than $1,750,000.
