Britain allocated some $1.6 million to a fund for needy Holocaust survivors. Foreign Secretary Robin Cook said two-thirds of the money would be earmarked to provide medical assistance to survivors in Russia, Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus. Fourteen countries, including Britain, pledged about $57 million to the fund, which was announced last December at a conference held in London on Nazi-looted gold.
