Britain and France have begun a series of talks on Middle Eastern problems of mutual interest, it was learned here today. British Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs J. Bowker is conducting these talks with Quai D’Orsay officials.
Among the issues under discussion are the possible establishment of a Greater Syria under King Abdullah of Jordan, comprising Jordan, Syria and The Lebanon, Egyptian interference with shipping using the Suez Canal, and the policies of the Arab League and questions concerning Libya and French North Africa. It is understood that the French strongly object to the Greater Syria project.
