The British Foreign Office has authorized the shipment to Egypt of 18 training planes formerly belonging to the Royal Air Force, the Evening News reported today.
The paper said that before permitting the London firm of James Stuart Travel, Ltd., to ship the aircraft to Egypt, the Foreign Office referred the question to Dr. Palph J. Bunche, U.N. acting Palestine mediator. The planes were being crated at Corydon Airfield today for shipment to Misr Airways, the Egyptian national airline.
A representative of the shipping firm asserted that the planes had not been classified as war material, shipment of which to the Middle East is banned. The planes are said to be worth $40,000.
An appeal by the American Jewish Labor Committee to “end its disastrous course in Palestine and carry out the United Nations partition decision of November, 1947, was received here by the British Labor Party. In a cabled reply, the Party told the American Jewish labor organization that it is confident that “permanent peace and mutual understanding will soon be reestablished in the Middle East.”
