Bowing to public criticism, the British Government today banned the export of war materiel to the Arab states warring on Israel. The ban also includes Palestine. Among the articles placed under embargo were airplanes, bombs, firearms, ammunition, grenades, explosives and mines.

The Board of Trade, in its order revoking all licenses for the shipment of military equipment to the Middle East, said; “For some time licenses have been refused for the export of war materiel to these countries, but this order revokes all licenses for the export of explosives, even if destined for industrial use.”
