The three British ships with 4,400 Exodus refugees sailed from Port de Bouc a few minutes after six p.m. today, following the expiration of an ultimatum handed the Jews by the British Government yesterday calling on them to land in France or be deported to the British zone of Germany.
The transports sailed in the direction of Gibraltar. Only six Jewish immigrants came ashore at the last minute. The total number of Exodus refugees who landed in France during the time that the ships were at Port de Bouc is estimated to be about 150. The Jews have lived on board the transports off the French Mediterranean coast for nearly a month since they were transferred from the blockade runner, Exodus 1947, at Haifa.
