Foreign Undersecretary Richard A. Butler denied in Commons yesterday that the British Government had induced foreign governments to refuse transit visas to refugees in order to check illegal immigration to Palestine. Replying to a question by Tom Williams, Laborite, Mr. Butler said Britain had contacted foreign governments only to secure their assistance in preventing illegal traffic in refugees from Germany, Czechoslovakia and other countries. He added that the British Government would consider the question of whether these measures were also causing hardship to legitimate immigrants.
