A British Foreign Office spokesman today indicated that Britain does not intend to recognize the “Arab Government of All Palestine” with headquarters in Gaza, Reuters reported. The British Government’s attitude towards the so-called “government,” the spokesman said, could be summed up in the fact that a cable from Ahmed Hilmi Pasha, “premier” of the Gaza body, which was received here Oct. 2, has gone unanswered.
Noting the Egyptian and Iraqi Governments’ granting of recognition to the Gaza “government, ” the Foreign Office spokesman referred to Foreign Secretary Ernest Bevin’s statement last month in which he declared that Britain supports the Bernadotte recommendations for Palestine, including the proposal that the Arab area of the country be absorbed by Transjordan.
