The British charge d’affaires in Damascus yesterday made representations to the Syrian Government against reported Syrian troop movements on the Palestine frontier, the Foreign Office announced here today. The charge d’affaires, C.A.F. Dundas, told the Acting Prime Minister that as long as British troops remain in Palestine the British Government is responsible for law and order.
A Foreign Office spokesman said that the department had only learned of Dundas’ action today and that the charge d’affaires had acted on his own initiative and an as a result of a policy decision made in London. However, it is understood that was move has been endorsed by the Foreign Office.
