A proposal that the Colonial Office grant a special Palestine immigration schedule for refugees from Poland, made by the Agudath Israel organization to Sir Francis Humphries, Foreign Office director of Polish relief activities, has not been accepted by the British Government, Sir Francis today informed H.A. Goodman, secretary of the Agudath Israel. It was pointed out in connection with the proposal that the question of illegal immigration had raised difficulties.
Discussing the general problem of the position of the Jews in Poland and those who had fled, Sir Francis indicated that the British authorities were concentrating on relief in southeastern Europe, while Americans were to deal with the problem in Baltic countries and Poland itself.
Meanwhile, Agudath Israel circles expressed doubt over the Jerusalem report that current negotiations would lead to inclusion of the Agudah in the Jewish Agency. These circles expressed the belief that Agudah cooperation would be limited to assistance in war problems and war problems and war emergency taxation.
