The Palestine Government today published a statement announcing the release of 18 Jews who were deported from Palestine last October as terrorist suspects. The liberated Jews have already arrived in Palestine and have been permitted to return to their homes, the announcement said. They were released in accordance with the procedure of periodically reviewing cases of persons detained under emergency regulations, the Government explained.
At the same time, it was announced that the Government has deported seven are Jews to the Sudan where several hundred Palestine Jews are being held in a camp under circumstances which have provoked severe protests on the part of Jewish groups in Palestine.
A meeting in Tel Aviv to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the defense of the colony of Tel Hai and the death of Joseph Trumpeldor, who was killed defending the settlement against the Arabs, broke up in confusion yesterday when Revisionists and supporters of the Histadruth engaged in a pitched battle in which seven persons were injured. Other memorial meetings were held throughout the country without any incidents.
Hoshe Shertok, chief of the political department of the Jewish Agency, was presented during the week-end with a Golden Book certificate declaring that he was “the moulder and founder of the Jewish Brigade.” The presentation was made by three officers of the Brigade who are touring the country to spur enlistment.
