About 12,500 orphaned refugees, most of them Jewish, are now residing in Great Britain, it was disclosed today in the House of Lords during debate on a bill empowering the Home Secretary to appoint guardians for children under 16 years of age who arrived in England after 1936.
Speaking in favor of the measure, the Earl of Munster said that the bill was supported by Jewish leaders since it would provide a means of settling the religious upbringing of the young refugees.
