A resolution urging the British Government to secure the inclusion in any Allied contractual arrangement with Germany of a clause providing for satisfying Jewish claims on Germany for reparations was adopted here today at the conference of the British section of the World Jewish Congress.
Another resolution expressed concern over the revival of the ultra-nationalist reactionary and Nazi elements in Germany. The resolution condemned the glorification of Nazi generals through the mediums of cinema, radio and literature.
The conference also adopted a resolution appealing to the British Government to impress upon Austria the necessity of maintaining its present restitution legislation. It also re-affirmed the W. J. C. traditional policy of close co-operation with the World Zionist Organization and the Jewish Agency.
The State of Israel cannot protect Jews living in the Arab countries, A. L. Easter-man, political secretary of the World Jewish Congress, told the conference last night. He stressed the need of the Jews in Arab lands for protection until they decided voluntarily to leave for Israel and other countries where they could find more secure homes but emphasized that Israel cannot act as “a Foreign Office for world Jewry.”
