Patrick Hancock, Britain’s Ambassador to Israel, asserted today that the British Government “has not accepted the existence of the Arab boycott against Israel and will not accept it.”
Speaking at a reception tendered by the Anglo-Israel Chamber of Commerce here, the envoy cited the fact that Israel’s trade with Britain during the last year reached 18,000,000 pounds sterling as “proof of the British population’s approach to the Arab boycott.”
He said that the United Kingdom “is and will be” a good market for Israel products “just as Israel is a good market for British products” and that trade between the two nations was increasing. He also expressed the hope that with the improvement in Israel’s foreign currency position, Israel would eliminate the lengthy process now involved in issuance of import licenses.
