Proof that the Palestine government proposes to carry out to the fullest extent its announced intention of fortifying the frontier patrols was seen today in reports, made at a conference of officials of the Department of Immigration, that 100 additional policemen will be drafted into the services of the border control system and that three airplanes will be placed on duty guarding the sea coasts.
These measures, it was declared, will be the first of a series of precautions to be taken by the administration against further infiltration of illegal immigrants into Palestine. It is confidently believed the government’s newly revealed policy in this direction will bring to an end the activities of self-appointed Arab youth bands, who set themselves up as volunteer “watch-dogs” to prevent Jews without visas from entering the Holy Land.
Today’s conference was addressed by E. Mills and by Edwin Herbert Samuel, son of Sir Herbert Samuel, noted Liberal statesman and former High Commissioner of Palestine. The two men, in addition to commenting on the governmental order for a bolstered border patrol, discussed the possibility of devising further means for curbing smuggling of immigrants into the country.
