Israel’s Foreign Minister Moshe Sharett, accompanied by Ambassador Eliahu Elath and David Horowitz, director of Israel’s Treasury Department, today discussed British-Israeli economic relations with Chancellor of Exchequer R.A.B. Butler. Sir Arthur Salter, British Minister of Economic Affairs, participated in the discussions. It is understood that the British and Israeli statesmen conferred primarily on investment facilities for British capital in Israel and on oil prospects in the Jewish State.
The London Times says that it is believed that the British Treasury is inclined to give facilities to British industrialists willing to participate in the industrialization and development of Israel. The paper reports that several groups and companies are interested in the fields of engineering, chemical plants, electrical equipment, and constructional work, including the construction of ports.
