An appeal for an emergency fund to be used in defending the Jewish community here against defamation and slander was issued today by the Board of Deputies of British Jews.
The statement declared that the sum which had been already raised was inadequate in view of the urgency of the task and urged launching of a campaign immediately to raise $50,000.
Signatories to the appeal included Neville Laski, president of the board, Sir Osmond E. D’Avigdor-Goldsmid, Leonard Montefiore and Sir Robert Waley Cohen.
