A new attempt by Jewish political prisoners to break out of the Latrun detention camp was discovered today when guards unearthed a 100-yard-long tunnel leading from a barracks toward the barbed wire fence. This is the second attempt in recent months to tunnel out of the camp.
The excavation, which was discovered during a routine inspection of the barracks, was electrically lit and ventilated. The prisoners were so angered by the discovery that they stoned the police who uncovered the shaft. There are approximately 300 Jews in Latrun.
