The British government is investigating the recent attempt to burn down the Clapton Synagogue in the East End of London, Under Secretary George Oliver told the House of Commons today. His statement was made in reply to Philip Piratin, Communist, and John B. Hynd, Labor who stressed that this attempt was only one of many recent anti-Semitic incidents in the Jewish section of London and that it was a matter of great concern not only to the Jews but to all people “of good will.”
Recent sabotage by extremists has not cut down the volume of oil exports from Palestine, Emanuel Shinwell, Minister for Fuel, told Commons. He added that a monthly average of 34,000 tons of oil is expected to be shipped to Britain during the next few months.
Major Frank Soskice, Solicitor General, announced that his office is “considering” the case of the “Jewish Struggle,” a publication which recently published a cartoon accusing the British of inciting pogroms in Palestine in 1929 and 1936. Sir Stanley Reed, Conservative, demanded that the government take action against the publication.
