Arab refugees from Palestine should “make up their minds” to settle in Arab countries rather than in Israel, Minister of State Kenneth Younger told the House of Commons in a statement on the British Government’s policy on the Arab refugee question.
He said that the Government believes the refugees should come to this decision “in conformity with realism and in the interests of the refugees themselves” without prejudice to their right to return to Israel or to receive compensation for their properties. He pointed out that the Israel Government had reaffirmed its willingness to pay fair compensation for abandoned land and to pay a sum on account into the reintegration fund now being set up by the United Nations Conciliation Commission on Palestine.
