For the first time in the history of Palestine under the British administration, immigration visas were granted today to Arabs from other countries to enter Palestine for permanent settlement.
The Palestine government announced that 150 immigration certificates will be issued to Arabs from Egypt and Syria, entitling them to obtain residence and labor in Palestine. All 150 will be employed as stevedores at the Haifa harbor.
Illegal immigration of Arabs from Syria and Egypt has been reported recently in large masses. The Palestine government, acting upon Jewish protests, has taken measures to check the Arab illegals. The 150 immigration visas for Arabs mark the first step of Egyptian and Syrian natives to obtain permits for entering Palestine legally.
